“OPERATION – BARRY”
Thank You!!
To all our dear friends who went above and beyond the
call of duty toward helping with the wonderful fundraising
for "Operation Barry." Because of all of you
and all your great fundraising efforts you raised a grand
total of $7410.00, just incredible!!! Barry and I have
been very blessed to have and to know such wonderful,
caring, thoughtful friends.
It has been a very humbling experience to receive
such an outpouring of support, not only financially,
but emotionally as well has just been so much more
than I ever imagined. It is hard to put into words
how grateful I am to all of you for everything you
have done for Barry and I, you have touched our
hearts with your very generous gifts and have helped
us in more ways then you will ever know. I'll never
forget the day Sharon Perron stopped in and told
me how she was really worried about Barry and all
his health problems that he faced. She then went
on to tell me how she wanted to help do some fundraising
to help with his medical costs and I was overwhelmed
by her caring, thoughtfulness and generosity. Before
I knew it things were in high gear, with raffle
tickets being sold, sold, sold! Ther was a yard
a sale being held and a special comedy night being
held with wonderful comedians from Boston.
Thank you Sharon for everything you did, you are
an amazing person, who loves animals and who gives
with all her heart. Barry and I will never forget
what you did for us. I also wish to thank Michelle
Morin for all her efforts that made the comedy night,
a fun-filled, evening with much laughter, wonderful
raffle prizes and a very successful fundraiser as
well. Thank you Michelle you are an amazing woman
too! Last but not least thank you to all of my doggie
daycare customers, friends, dog lovers, and to those
I don't even know. To all of you for contributing
so much of your time, energy, support and money
for "Operation Barry" we thank you from
the bottom of our hearts!
Love, Barbara & Barry
P.S. Just to let you know Barry is still recovering
from his elbow surgery which he had on March 17th
and he is doing very well. We have come a long way
since we brought him home from Tufts Animal Hospital
and everyday he gets a bit stronger. He is back
to doing some playing with his daycare friends and
when he gets tired he curls up in his recliner that
sits in the main room of our daycare where he can
keep an eye on things!
Thank you for your interest in OPERATION-BARRY!
What is OPERATION-BARRY?
Operation - Barry was created in the beginning of
March to help give Barbara Drury of Manilow’s
Canine Playground financial support for much needed
surgery for her dog Barry.
Who is BARRY?
Barry is a one-year-old yellow Labrador retriever
who has developed elbow displaysia on both legs
and in addition, both of his knees have crippling
ligament tears! This lovable dog is faced with not
being able to walk if he doesn’t get surgery.
(Update: As of March 17th, he has had the surgery
to his elbows. Tufts Veterinary clinic felt there
was no time to wait and immediately performed the
first surgery. He is slowly recovering, but doing
much better.)
As a patron of Manilow’s Canine Playground
and an animal lover, I was inspired to create this
fund raiser. Barry is a special dog. Not only is
he the Manilow’s canine host, but he is much,
much more. He baby sits, he puts the other dogs
at ease when Mom or Dad drops them off, he has boundless
energy; he’s comforting, he plays with every
dog that comes to visit, and so on. In a nut shell,
he’s the “social director” for
the playground!
As with humans, any surgery is extremely costly
and there is no readily available pet insurance
to help alleviate the expense when unexpected illnesses
crop up. We are always faced with the decision of
what to do. Some people will say; “it’s
just an animal”, but for those of us who have
pets, we know it is more than that. They are our
“best friends”, another important member
of our family, a “child”, and someone
who loves us no matter who we are or how we act
and they don’t question us. They deserve the
best and we all want to help them though any pain
and suffering they may have.
This fund raising program has been developed to
help Barbara and Barry get through all this anguish.
The Friends of OPERATION - BARRY invite you to become
a donor by participating or donating to this cause.
On April 22nd, Manilow’s Canine Playground
raffled 3 FREE WEEKS of doggie daycare. (A value
of $ 95.00 each) This chance was for the customers
of Manilow’s only! Each chance was $5.00.
The winners were: Donna Pillsbury, Nancy Erb and
Norma Imhoff.
There was another Raffle for cash prizes drawn
on April 30th. The Friends of OPERATION - BARRY
sold tickets for $5.00 each (10 per book) and there
was a bonus for the most tickets sold by one person………….Stacy
Witt sold 90 tickets and received 40 pound bag of
dog food and a matching box of biscuits donated
to the cause by Petco of Leominster.
The 1st Place winner for $200 was Melanie Beveridge
from Lancaster; 2nd Place for $100 was Helena DaSilva
from No. Billerica; and the two 3rd places winners
were: Nancy Erb from Leominster and Theresa Messer
from Ayer. Congratulations!
On Sunday, May 1st, the Friends of OPERATION -
BARRY held a yard sale at Manilow’s. The “sellers”
donated their profits to Operation - Barry. There
was also a 50/50 Raffle and home baked cookies that
day and a good friend of Barbara Drury donated the
services of her horse for Pony Rides!
On Friday, May 13th there will be a Comedy Night
Show with nationally recognized comedians from 7
PM to 11 PM at the Monoosnock Country Club in Leominster
(off of Route 13), with cocktails (cash bar), appetizers
and Raffles galore! Tickets will be $15 pp advanced
