What is Doggie
Daycare?
Doggie Daycare is an organized, controlled. and
monitored environment for a group of friendly dogs
to interact and play throughout the day in an enclosed
building or yard. Scheduled activities will depend
on the individual daycare owner, but typically there
is a rest period where the dogs may nap during the
day, which may be in individual housing. The purpose
of doggie daycare is to provide stimulation, exercise,
socialization, and in some cases training for a
dog that might otherwise be left home alone during
the day. The owner of the dog receives peace of
mind knowing their dog is being cared for by experienced
professionals and will be just as tired as they
are at the end of a busy day.
Why should I consider
Doggie Daycare for my dog?
Many dogs are left home for extended periods of
time throughout the day. Busy owners often come
home tired and are unable to give their dog the
amount of exercise and play their dog really needs
to maintain physical and mental health. Without
adequate exercise, dogs sometimes develop problems
like destructive behavior, incessant barking, and
regression in their housebreaking. Guilty owners
add to this by overdoing activity on the weekends
and feeding treats to make Fluffy happy (and fat).
Dogs are active and social animals. They need to
run and romp regularly and for most dogs, the chance
to play with other dogs is a joy like no other!
For owners with puppies, the most important period
in a puppy's life is prior to 16 weeks when all
their experiences help to form a fairly permanent
adult personality. Animal behavior experts agree
that it is very important to socialize your puppy
well to give your dog the best start in life. Doggie
Daycare can provide excellent socialization opportunities
with other dogs and other people.
What would a typical
day at Doggie Daycare be like?
The hours of Manilow's Canine Playground Doggie
Daycare are:
Monday-Friday, 6:45 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The first couple of hours of the day are when
the owners come in to drop off their dogs, depending
on what time they need to be at work. Generally,
there are only two or three owners coming in at
the same time, so it is pretty free flowing and
not much congestion of customers all at once. When
the dogs are brought inside, they will find a crate
for their particular size, where they will stay
until it is time to go outside. We try to get them
out as soon as possible to begin their day of fun
and playing with their other dog friends. They will
be put together in different playgroups with other
dogs of their same size, age, and nature. Once they
are outside, depending on the weather they will
stay out for 1-2 hours, and then return inside for
a short rest. The dogs are rotated in and out most
of the day, with a small rest period around noontime.
The owners will generally start to come back between
4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to pick up their tired and
happy dogs to go home for dinner.
Obedience classes are being taught evenings, by
a certified
dog-training instructor.
